Saturday 18 January will see the quarter-finals of both the under-16 and under-18 National Youth League Cup take place.
The National Youth League Cup is the epitome of Scottish youth club rugby and will see prospective future stars of Scottish Rugby compete in what is always a fantastic competition.
In the under-18 competition, Stirling County will be looking to secure the Cup for a fourth year in a row, a phenomenal feat for the club and testament to their youth system. Last year they stormed to a 29-5 defeat over Gala Wanderers in the final to lift the trophy.
Stirling County will host Biggar at Bridgehaugh in their Cup quarter-final tie.
In the under-16 Cup, Edinburgh side Currie, will look to repeat their impressive form of last year. An extremely strong run in the knockout stages of the competition saw them play Hawick Albion in the final, who they defeated 37-5.
This year Currie will welcome last year’s semi-finalists, Melrose Wasps, to Malleny Park in the first round of the competition’s knockout stages.
Nick Rennie, Scottish Rugby Head of Clubs and Schools, said: “The National Youth League Cup and Bowl competitions are always greatly anticipated within youth rugby circles, giving young players a chance to showcase their talent in a nationwide competition.
“It’s a guarantee that we’ll see some great rugby coming from these games, with the best teams from all Scottish regions fiercely competing to be crowned as champions of the country.
“I wish all the teams the best and look forward to the competition getting underway.”
Also on the Saturday 18 January, the quarter-finals of the National Youth League Bowl will be played. Neither of last year’s Bowl winners, Hamilton at under-18 and Ayr at under-16, are involved in the competition this year allowing and a new side to step-up to the plate and take the title.
