Western Province looking to welcome back Liebenberg for Cheetahs
DHL Western Province coach, Allister Coetzee got some good news on the injury front amidst concern over a trio of players.
Hooker Tiaan Liebenberg has been cleared for full training and it looks like he might make his come back against the Free State Cheetahs this weekend.
“Tiaan has been working hard on his fitness since getting the all-clear to resume full training. It’s always great to welcome back an experienced player and we all know the additional leadership and energy that he brings to the team.”
Wing/Fullback Cheslin Kolbe sustained a knee injury that leaves him with a 50/50 chance to play this weekend. Flank Rynhardt Elstadt and flyhalf Gary van Aswegen also sustained injuries in the 24 all draw against the Vodacom Blue Bulls on the weekend.
“Cheslin is about 50-50 at this stage. We certainly won’t rush him into the Cheetahs match but we will give him until Wednesday,” Coetzee said.
Elstadt and Van Aswegen should resume training on Tuesday and be ready for the clash against the Cheetahs. Coetzee himself is struggling with a heavy cold.
DHL Western Province will face the Free State Cheetahs at DHL Newlands on Saturday, August 17 (kick-off 19h15), with the Under-19 and Under-21 teams playing in curtain-raisers against the Sharks U19s and U21s at 14h45 and 16h45, respectively.
Teams to be announced later this week.
