Eastern Cape’s weekend of rugby misery

The Eastern Cape and Southern Kings franchise had a black weekend in rugby as all the teams involved with the franchise went down.

The EP Kings started the rot as they lost 30-23 to the Regent Boland Cavaliers in Port Elizabeth. At the same time the Border Bulldogs tasted defeat at the hands of the Valke up north in Kempton park.

The Southern Kings then put up a brave and spirited display against a MTN Lions team. The Lions was however the beter team on the night and walked away victors in the promotion/relegation Super Rugby match. It must be said that referee Jaco Peyper didn’t help much, but his mistakes was not one sided.

It was left up to the SWD Eagles to see if they could muster a win, but that was also not to be as the Pumas run riot against them Neslpruit. The Pumas winning 60-20.

Not even at school level could the Eastern Cape manage to win. Grey High school went down to Grey college in Bloemfontein as the “Grey” Battle ended in a massive win for the home side.

Indeed a weekend that most Eastern Cape rugby fans would rather want to forget.
