Brown available to play after successful appeal
Springbok Sevens captain Kyle Brown is available for selection should his side make the final of the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament, being played in Moscow on Sunday after SARU succeeded in its appeal against his suspension of six matches.
Brown appeared before independent Judicial Officer Jeremy Summers (England) on Saturday after being cited by Citing Commissioner Yann Le Dore (France) for contact with the eye(s) or eye area in breach of Law 10.4(m) during South Africa’s Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 Pool B match against Scotland on June 29.
The player denied committing the alleged act of foul play but the Judicial Officer upheld the citing complaint against the player and imposed a sanction of six matches. SARU then lodged an appeal and the subsequent hearing was held on Sunday.
The ban was reduced to two matches following the appeal.
This means that Brown will miss the quarterfinal match against Fiji and should South Africa progress to the semifinals, he will miss that as well.
