Sharks name James at 12

The Sharks have no more than 5 of their centres out of action due to injury. Frans steyn, Tim Whitehead, Paul Jordaan, Marius Joubert and Meyer Bosman is all on the injured list. Add to this the turmoil of losing your coach on Tuesday

Grant Bashford is taking over from John Plumtree as coach for the remaining super Rugby ficture. In his first move he did a sensible thing and selected Butch James at 12 and Pat Lambie at 10. There was speculation earlier this week that the roles would be reversed. James however has played at 12 before and done so even at international level. Lambie has very little experience in that position.

James will be partnered by Louis Ludik in the midfield. Ludik normaly plays at fullback or wing, but should be able to make the switch to 13.

Bashford opted to play Kyle Cooper at 2 in the starting line up with Bismarck du Plessis on the bench. Bissie has not played a full game, except at club level, this season. Joining Bismarck on the bench is Cobus Reinach also returning from injury.

Sharks team: Riaan Viljoen, Odwa Ndungane, Louis Ludik, Butch James, Lwazi Mvovo, Pat Lambie, Charl McLeod, Keegan Daniel (captain), Willem Alberts, Marcell Coetzee, Franco van der Merwe, Edwin Hewitt, Jannie du Plessis, Kyle Cooper, Beast Mtawarira. Replacements: Bismarck du Plessis, Danie Mieni/Wiehahn Herbst, Jandre Marais, Jean Deysel, Jacques Botes, Cobus Rienach, Jaco van Tonder.
