Bulls suffer Spies loss
The Vodacom bulls will be without their captain, Pierre Spies, for the rest of the season. It has been confirmed that Spies will be out for the rest of the 2013 season after suffering a bicep tear while playing for the Springboks against Samoa.
Spies consulted two specialists on Monday, one in Johannesburg and a second in Pretoria. Ultrasound scans confirmed the extend of the damage to his bicep. He will undergo surgery later today.
Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss, confirmed that the surgery will see Spies out for the rest of 2013.
This will come as a blow to the Bulls who are currently topping the South African conference and are still in contention for a home semi-final and even top spot overall. Heyneke Meyer will also be concerned as the other no. 8 in his plans, Vermeulen, is still out injured and only set to return to action after the Vodacom Super Rugby competition. This brings the question as to who will fill this position in the Springbok team for the Castle Rugby Championship later this season.
